Do not judge and you will not be judged

“Only god can judge me.” I wrote that on my backpack in high school. It was a lyric to a song by a rapper named Tupac. Little did I know how much judging we do when we are adults and how it affects our lives?

We all have had a friend who constantly asks and wants to know everything you are doing so they can compare and contrast.
Some people compare each other daily. From the clothes we wear to the cars we drive. It is a horrible way to live. There is always going to be somebody better and always going to be somebody worse off than you are.
It robs us of happiness. When you compare, you judge. When you judge, you look at things you have and don’t have. The best way to look at someone is to help when you can and be happy for them when they are better off.

It is true that when you judge others, people that judge are judged
That is the kind of atmosphere they create. The best ways to get over being so judgmental. First, try to understand the person. They may have had different opportunities or, for one reason, didn’t take as many risks as you did because of their upbringing.

When you change your ways, you become a happier person. People will want to spend more time around you. Your mind will shift. I realized my life wasn’t so impressive when I stopped judging people. I would have been better off comparing myself to the best version of myself than the person next to me.

So the next time you want to judge someone, and think you are better, ask yourself why? Then picture yourself in their shoes. The judgment of others has to do with being angry at ourselves because we could have done better. As martial arts taught me, our biggest opponent is the best version of ourselves.
