Getting over getting hurt by your parents

Last Updated on July 17, 2023

I spent the past twenty years blaming my parents for my life not turning out how I wanted it to. It happened when I was about fourteen. I was making websites around the same time I discovered pay-per-click advertising. When I received my first paycheck for around $300, my mother freaked and told me I was too young to make that much money.

That small argument affected my life tremendously. Not only was I not allowed to make money, I was not allowed to pursue my passion. Little did I know but that small event would devastate my life. I spent the next twenty years dubbing in different stuff, not committing to anything because, unconsciously, I was scared my mother would come into my room and scream at me. Maybe I am too sensitive, but that minor incident changed my life, seeing what the internet has become and how I missed the opportunities.
Today I realized that my mother truly wanted what was best for me, although what she did was wrong. They say you begin to heal and grow when you let things go. It was a hard decision, but I let it go and forgave her. Sure, I could have lived an extraordinary life with my website ideas and be financially set at sixteen. However, who knows how my life would have turned out and what paths and avenues it would have taken me. Sure, I have regrets, but I decided to let it go.
I am an adult and can design any website I want. The competition is more challenging, but I am older and more robust than before. Thanks, Mom, for the beautiful lesson of not letting anyone stop you, including you. Who knows what the future will bring, and now it finally looks bright.
