Simple way to deal with regret

What is your biggest regret in life? We all have at least one. Don’t you wish you could go back and change it? How much different would life be? Would it change everything, though? What if it created other regrets or unforeseen problems?

Life is not perfect; everyone has something they didn’t get. Otherwise, it would be ideal, and no life has perfection in it because we are human.

But the regret is still there, so how do you deal with it?

I have wanted to be a martial artist since I was little, but my parents weren’t supportive. They discouraged it and wouldn’t take me to classes.

I’m still mad at them today, but I realized it was never about getting rich or famous for the sport, although that would be nice.

It was a practice I enjoyed, and I still do it as a hobby. The fame and glory got added on as I got older. So, although that part is gone, I must accept that part is gone. I can still enjoy a good afternoon practice session.

So, you must accept what you cannot change and accept that no life is perfect. Let the regret go; that part of your life is gone forever. It will never happen; if it did, something else would go wrong.

Another way of dealing with regret is to stop thinking about it. Every time it comes up in your mind, dismiss it and let it disappear. It is a form of Zen meditation. After a while, your brain will do it automatically.

The worst thing you can do is dwell on it. Let life pass you by while you drive yourself up the wall, wishing for something that will not happen.

So enjoy life and accept the things you can not change life will be easier that way.

How to get over the past

My story
I spent the past 15 years spending part of the day reminiscing. My life turned out differently than I wanted it to, whether it was my lack of ambition or having no guidance.

I wanted life to be easy. I tried discovering some ancient secret to success that would make life magically easy. I did not find it. Now, I know it doesn’t exist, and hard work is the only way.

Stock in the past
It’s easy to get stuck in the past when life is not going your way. Getting stuck on a particular event is even easier. I was playing it over and over in my mind in different ways. I wish it had turned out differently a lot.

I wish I created more websites and made lots of money when I had the opportunity. Instead, I didn’t do it; I let other people who knew little about the web influence my decision. I was young and dumb. I screwed up, and I regret it now. I could have been retired, living on my own island by now.

However, living in the past has no benefits. It already happened. Your entire life will pass you by while you dwell on the past.

Solution
The best thing to do is learn from your experience, no matter how expensive the lesson was or how long it took to learn. Once I realized I could not go back in time and create those beautiful websites that had already been made by now.

But now that I am older, more mature, and wiser, I learned from those mistakes. I widened up the next time a similar opportunity arises; I will avoid making the same mistake. I will not let anything or anybody stop me.

The problem is that many people get some great idea, fail at it, and give up. Instead of learning from the failure, growing and repeating it less and less or not at all. They stop and start dwelling, which is precisely what I did, and I can tell you it is not worth the time wasted and the chances missed

I would have been healthier and happier if I had moved on sooner. So the second you start regretting something in life, realize and accept it is all gone, move forward, and never look back. You will be way happier.

Do what you love

I spent most of my life chasing money because I thought that was what you do as an adult. I loved doing martial arts, but I kept putting it to the side when I was younger. I got a job and started working and drinking. Before I knew it, I was thirty, and it was too late to do anything serious with martial arts. It is a big regret and something I will have to live with for the rest of my life.
When you are young, you think you have everything in the world, but time flies fast. And people’s ideas change, humanity grows, and markets shift. Before you know it is too late, don’t waste time, do what you love, and be the best you can be. Because you might wake up one day and the opportunity is gone, and it is too late.
