Embracing Your Dreams While Young: A Reflection on Lost Opportunities and the Importance of pursuing your passion

I want to talk to you about the most essential part of your life. It is your dream or your purpose for being here on earth. Especially when you are young, you take it for granted, put it off till tomorrow, and say you are still young and have time. Please don’t put it off another day. Please do it now. Your future self will thank you.

I was really into martial arts when I was young. I wanted to be a professional fighter, but I kept telling myself first that I would get rich first. The years passed, and I was chasing money; the dreams were on the back burner. Before I knew it, it was too late, and all I had were regrets and a lot of weight I had gained.

I was hard-headed and wouldn’t listen to the few good people who gave me good advice. I blame myself; I was young and naive. Life happens fast, and in sports, you have a time limit. I missed my boat. It affects my health, relationships, and overall satisfaction with life.

There is no time for being lazy and no excuse for giving your best every day. Sure, I still go to the gym. Sometimes, I work out, but after feeling good after working out, the pain sets in, and I realize it is too late for me and I can never be a world champion.

Don’t let your friends or even your parents stop you. It is your life, and you can decide how to live it. You answer to you at the end of the day, and your family can give great support, not great advice. Don’t say, You are not this or you’re not that. Because in 10 years, you can only have regret, the worst pain of them all.

There is no greater feeling than asking yourself in old age, what if or why did I not pursue my passions and go after that degree or job? It’s horrible; no amount of money or possessions, friends, or relationships ever feels as good as waking up every day and doing something you love and can support yourself with. There is no worse feeling than waking up every day with regrets.

If I had another chance, I would go 100 percent on doing what I love, chasing it with everything I have, and not letting anything or anybody stop me. There is nothing else that really will make you happy in life.

Patience is the key

Patience is a powerful characteristic because all great things take time to accomplish. For example, you can’t be a world-star kung fu master. It takes time to practice in class and outside of class on your own. It takes years and years, and you need patience to succeed.

Every worthwhile takes time and dedication. You must decide to dedicate yourself to training and work hard every day in whatever you do to get anywhere.

When I got into computer repair, I would read about the topic every night and watch videos. It took years to become good at it. There was a time when I did not want to do it, but I kept pushing myself till I got good at it.

The problem is I stopped fixing computers because I got into it for the wrong reasons. I got into it for the money. When you pick something to spend a lot of time on, please do it for the right reasons and ensure you enjoy the journey, not the destination.

When you are ready, know that it will take a lot of time, and you must be patient. There will be challenges and obstacles, but you must keep reaching for the goal.

How to make a million dollars guaranteed

Follow your passion

You will never have a million dollars unless you follow your passion. I met a young adult who was about 18 years old. I asked him what does he want to do with his life? He said he wanted to play golf. However, his father wants him to go into the family plumbing business.

I told him he would never have a million dollars going into his family business. Sure, he might come into a substantial amount of money, but eventually, he would burn out, realize he doesn’t enjoy what he is going, quit and lose everything.

It’s hard

Since we are all unique, there that something that we enjoy doing more than anything else. It might be playing basketball or writing or whatever. That special talent is going to make you a million, nothing else.

It’s hard because we might feel the pressure of our peers to follow the status quo. To do what everyone else is doing. But only some people are following their passion. If we do what everyone else is doing, we will get the results everyone else is getting—very few people because finally independent or wealthy.

Talent

There is no particular industry or job that will get you there. It’s hard to figure out what to do when you are young. A successful pizza maker said to me once when I told him I didn’t know what I wanted to do for a living. He said to start with not doing what I don’t like. It is a simple philosophy, but it worked.

Warren Buffett said he met many people at the end of their life who said they would have followed their passion more when they were young. However, he met very few people who wished they had chased money more.

Chasing the money

If you chase the money and don’t burn out before you get to the million dollars, you will spend it on things that make you fulfilled and happy, and before you know it, the money will be gone. The only solution is to double down on your passion. Even if you do not make a million, you will still be happy at the end of the day. The greatest wealth is health.
